Boudoir isn’t (just) about pretty pictures
I think there is a common misconception that boudoir photography is all about “sexy“ (sexy is not a word I would ever use with my clients) scantily clad photos to share with a partner. And while there may be some truth in there, it’s just one aspect of the impact of booking an experience. To me, experience is the key word. So let’s look at the stages.
Before you even book - there’s a buildup of nerves and excitement; you’ve seen my gallery, you’ve read my blogs, you like my style and you just get a good vibe. Can I do this? am I brave enough? would I look like the photos in the gallery? could that really be me? Ok, I’m gonna call, no I can’t, yes I can, OK I’m in, I’m doing it, oh cr$p I’m on the phone with him, sound cool sound cool sound cool and calm! I’ve only gone and done it, I’m booked! Holy %#@&!!! What a rollercoaster of emotion! (PS well done!!)
After you book - this is a time when many many feelings will present themselves! Excitement, anticipation, and doubt, all are valid and real. This is a magical time so revel in it, enjoy the butterflies in your stomach, they are letting you know that this is important and scary at the same time. This time is also when you do your planning for the outfits you want to wear, styles that you like, appointments for nails and waxing and threading, etc. Maybe you do a shopping trip with your girlfriends and share the experience, they will be celebrating your courage with you! You know a shared experience is more powerful, right? You get to pamper yourself before the big day! Your excitement and butterflies will grow and keep reminding you that it’s nearly go time!
The day - ooooeeee it’s finally here! The day you’ve envisioned, planned, and prepared for. Maximum nerves AND calm, you know you got this. You are strong, you are brave and you actually feel it too! Moments of doubt are there as you approach the door and you hit the bell. (you know we’re waiting for you at the door, right? :) ). As you get primped and prepped by the amazing hair and makeup artists, you start to relax into the experience. Yep, you really are here, ready to unwrap yourself, peel away the layers and be seen for who you are. I’m not talking about your clothes, I mean the layers you show the outside world. We go through the session and your confidence grows, your poses become more fluid, your face relaxes, and your whole self radiates confidence as we work together to show you a whole new you.
This is already sounding like a big deal right? But wait! There’s more. You have the afterglow. When you leave the studio, you’ll be feeling on top of the world, like a million bucks! Heck 10 million! I’ve had ladies sit in their car on my driveway for an hour texting their friends etc.
After the session - In the days following your experience you’ll be glowing! There is more anticipation and excitement as I prepare your gallery. I’ll be dropping you teaser images to keep you revved up :) I’ll give you a day before notification that your gallery is ready, find somewhere quiet for when you open the link; you should be sat down for this!
This is my favorite part, this is where you get to see the results, the physical outcome of your choices to invest in yourself. Many ladies cry, they haven’t seen or thought of themselves this way for years. These are good tears though, you earned them!
Weeks after and beyond - it’s amazing to think that everything you have felt up to this point will stay with you for a lifetime. Imagine sitting with your partner 30 years from now and dusting off your gorgeous album to enjoy yet again. Imagine 6 months from now when you’re having a tough period in your life, you open that special folder on google drive where you store the digitals and you scroll through them, taking you back to when you felt amazing.
This is what you are investing in, memories. Precious memories that will last you a lifetime.
